NVIDIA working on GeForce GTX 285 for Mac Pro

gtx285sml NVIDIA is working on a high-end video card for the Mac Pro, the GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition, according to AppleInsider. The company has not yet disclosed complete details, but the component will be manufactured by EVGA and offer two dual-link DVI ports instead of a Mini DisplayPort. The GTX 285 allegedly will match the performance of its Windows variant, which features 240 processor cores and 1GB of GDDR3 memory with the standard configuration.

NVIDIA also offers the Quadro FX 4800 for the Mac Pro, with 1.5GB of onboard memory but only 192 graphics cores. The Quadro model also offers dual-link DVI connectors for a pair of 30-inch displays. Both products support the company's CUDA technology and the upcoming OpenCL standard that will be utilized in Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
Pricing information for the GTX 285 remains unknown, although the Windows version carries a retail price of $400. The card should ship sometime in June.
